A new incident was reported in transit through the Panama Canal

The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) confirmed the incident in Agua Clara lock in the Atlantic taken this sunday morning.

The incident was reported during the transit of the northbound ship, which was assisted by a tugboat, and there were no injuries.

Vessel transit programming was also unaffected, however, the ACP ordered an investigation into the causes.

The latter follows a series of incidents that have occurred on the interoceanic highway in recent months.

On February 14, a fire broke out on the tugboat Dolega in the Paraíso sector. There were no injuries in this incident either, the official cause is still unknown.

On January 30, a container ship CAPE KORTIJA reported a fire in the engine room during maneuvers towards the port of PSA. This fact affected the access road.

One person was injured in this incident, but shipping traffic was not threatened.

He Panama Canal reported on December 15, 2022, an outbreak of fire in one of the machinery tunnels in the upper chamber of the Miraflores locks. There are no reports of injuries, but shipping traffic through this lock has been suspended.

Last year, the Panama Canal also confirmed human error in the work of the control center, which caused the overflow of water that occurred on September 13 at the Gatun locks.

The water exceeded the intermediate doors 15 and 16 which limit the intermediate chamber with the lower level of the west lane.

This was due to the fact that the valves that control the flow of water into the chamber, which were behind the ship, were not closed, the ACP indicated.
