Garamendi on leaving Ferrovial: “I wish there were more Rafaeles del Pino in Spain”

The President of CEOE considers the Government responsible for the campaign to discredit businessmen

President of the association CEO, Antonio Garamendidescribed this Friday as an “incredible, absurd and dangerous” reaction of the Government to the announcement Railway that it will move its headquarters to the Netherlands, and informed the Chief Executive Officer, Pedro Sánchez, to list, with first and last names, Raphael del Pinocompany president, creates “mistrust” among investors.

The problem, according to the president of the employers’ association, is not so much that the company is blamed, but specific people, by name and surname. “You look at people, you look for people and you try to destroy them,” condemned Garamendi, alluding to the criticisms directed by members of the Government to businessmen such as Juan Roig (Mercadona) or Amancio Ortega, the founder of Inditex.

In statements to Onda Cero collected by Europa Press, the CEOE president assured that business people are “the solution, not the problem” and insisted that reactions like those of Pedro Sánchez to the Ferrovial march represent “A very bad message for Spain and foreign investors”.

At the moment, he claims, he is not aware that there are other companies trying to imitate Ferrovial, but he has asked the company for “respect” and “even more respect” from the company’s businessmen, he stressed.

“Imagine Juan Roig or Amancio Ortega in every Spanish province, it would be wonderful”, added Garamendi, who warned that the daily messages of “punishment” to companies by a minister or ministers create a message of “a very big lack of trust”.

“At the moment, Spanish companies look at the North American market as the market of the future because it gives them more confidence”, said the head of CEOE, who believes that Spain should have the business world “between the cotton”. “It seems that when a Spanish company becomes multinational, it becomes saturated,” criticized Garamendi.

When asked if the companies did “very well” with the CEO Pedro Sánchezas the First Deputy Prime Minister stated yesterday, Nadia CalvinoGaramendi replied that he What business people want is a government “that creates legal certainty, regulatory stability, standard quality and trust”. “I would ask for the return of peace and moderation,” he said.

Garamendi showed his respect for Ferrovial’s decision “as part of its international expansion strategy, for legal certainty, regulatory stability and standard quality.” “Many times it’s about trust,” said the business leader, who pointed out that the company is moving to a European country that “is not a tax haven.”

The CEOE leader reminded that Ferrovial is a multinational company that creates 5,500 jobs in Spain and contributes more than 280 million euros in taxes. “The Del Pino family are great businessmen and great creators of wealth in Spain,” he pointed out.

Garamendi noticed this “Ferrovial owes nothing to anyone” and that when he got the job it was because he won the tender and told the Government that if he wants Spain to be an attractive country, “it is important to encourage these companies to feel comfortable in this country.” “Smear campaigns are not the most appropriate,” he added.
