More than $175.37 million in power transmission projects

In the last four years, Electrical Transmission Company, SA (Etesa) managed to complete 10 power transmission projects with investment reaching $175.37 million, it was detailed general manager of the company, Carlos Mosquera Castillo.

Another 13 projects are currently being carried out, quantified at $564.54 million, Mosquera Castillo detailed before the Board of Directors of the Panamanian Society of Engineers and Architects (SPIA), where he presented a summary of the status of electricity transmission projects in the country, and its projections in brief, medium and long term.

One of these ongoing projects is the 230 KV Sabanitas – Panama III transmission line, which consists of the construction of a double-circuit transmission line with two conductors per phase.

This transmission line will have an approximate capacity of one thousand MVA per circuit and a length of about 50 kilometers, along the Panama – Colón highway, the investment of which is worth 130 million dollars.

A total of 14 projects that will have a positive impact on the national power sector are in the bidding process, in the amount of 419,983 million dollars.

While four other projects, which belong National Interconnected System Expansion Plan (PESIN), planned for execution this year, represent an investment of 190.85 million dollars.

“Among the projects that have been completed by 2023, those that are currently being implemented, those that are in the bidding process and those that should be realized next, an investment of 1,350.74 million dollars is estimated”said the manager of ETESA.

Mosquera Castillo explained the process to SPIA directors Colombia-Panama electrical interconnection.

This project is in the final stage of implementation, since the technical and environmental studies are nearing completion.

“One of the advantages of this interconnection project is that it enables the optimization of available resources, as a means of ensuring greater inclusion of renewable sources and guaranteeing the region’s energy security. In addition, part of the optimal expansion scenario is regional production and transmission,” said the ETESA manager.
