Montijo, ready for the 2024 Buena Vista Sur Trail race

The sixth edition of the 10-kilometer Buena Vista Sur Trail Race is scheduled for Sunday, April 28, 2024, starting at 7:00 a.m., organizers said.

The event takes place in the community of Buena Vista Sur, town of El Pilón in the district of Montijo, province of Veraguas.

The route is circular, 10 kilometers long, of which more than 90% is a rural area that passes through roads, ravines, wooded areas, uneven roads and only about 500 meters of asphalt on the 5th kilometer.

The starting point is on a large, flat surface, with enough space to keep the distance between the participants before and after the race.

It travels from Buena Vista Sur, leads to places known as Cacho de Chivo, El Papayo, continues to the main community of El Pilón, enters the attractive community of Mojarras, near the San Pedro River and turns again towards the starting point, entering Buena Vista South (starting area and goals), from north to south.

The organizing committee of this event is chaired by Roger Ureña Vásquez, an active athlete in running in the master’s category and a former representative for the national athletics teams.

Also, the organizers guarantee that the space has a residence, with sanitary service, drinking water, natural shade and enough space for parking vehicles.’

This event will also have at least more than 20 young volunteers from the community (male and female), who serve as guides on the route and provide hydration to the athletes, in three positions available for this purpose; The event provides food and hydration for participants, as well as awarding medals and prizes to the winning athletes. by age and gender categories, and draws gifts through a prize game among those registered.

The V version of the 10k BVS took place on Sunday 30th April 2023 at 7:00am with the technical support of full runners, local event organizers and timing companies.

350 athletes participated, and this edition included 2 new modalities, the kids race (race for infants) at 0.5 and 1.0 kilometers in 2 age categories, both male and female.

On the other hand, a walk for adults with a distance of four kilometers was reported.

In the 2023 edition, 250 10 km runners, 60 children and 40 walkers participated, which is a total of 350 athletes, therefore an increase in the number of participants is expected for the next edition.
