Etesa begins the construction of the Burunga substation

The Electrical Transmission Company, SA (Etesa) started the construction of the Burunga substation in Panama Oeste.

The project consists of two warehouses with three switches 230kV, two warehouses with two switches 230kV, sections of circuits 230kV-12/13, including optical fibers and adaptations to Substations El Coco and Panama IIIfor the inclusion of the Burunga substation in the National Interconnected System (SIN).

The project represents an investment of B/. 12,315,918.96 and was officially awarded on March 14, 2023, is a job of utmost importance, as it directly affects a high demand sector in the province Western Panama.

New Burunga substation GIS It is also part of the expansion plan that Etesa is implementing in this sector of the country, with which it will be possible to reliably feed the growing demand for electricity in the eastern area of ​​this province.

This project will bring significant benefits to thousands of Panamanians, improving the reliability and quality of the country’s electricity supply.

ETESA transmits high-voltage energy through more than 3,000 kilometers of lines, 4,500 high-voltage towers, 18 substations and 22 communication points.

In the next two and a half years, an additional 800 to 1000 MW is expected to be injected with the contribution of renewable energy sources.
