CCIAP: job creation, one of the urgent challenges of 2024

The Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Panama (CCIAP) he indicated that job creation is one of the most pressing challenges for Panama.

They believe that the combination of unemployment and informality, exacerbated by the pandemic and the closure of communication routes in July 2022 and October and November last year, require a redoubled effort by the authorities, workers and the employment sector.

According to the union, it is urgent to formulate, implement and monitor initiatives and policies aimed at creating quality jobs.

In addition, it is necessary to encourage investments in infrastructure, deepen the diversification of the economy and encourage entrepreneurship. These measures will not only contribute to reducing unemployment, encouraging human development, but will also strengthen our economy in all its areas.

Amidst the challenging economic context and the challenges posed by new technologies, there is a clear need to deepen technical education.

For CCIAP, this educational impulse is a priority, as shown by the relevance given to the topic within Plan for the country 2019-2024 and an edition under development for 2024 – 2029. Cooperation between educational institutions and private companies can generate beneficial synergies for the economic and social sectors.

They expressed strong support for Specialized Higher Technical Institute (ITSE)and its Board of Directors, a public-private collegial body that plays a key role in quality technical education.

In addition, the dual vocational training it offers National Institute for Vocational Training and Training for Human Development (INADEH)and internship programs in companies are effective tools for providing young people with the opportunity to gain practical experience and skills relevant to the labor market.

On the other hand, they demanded from the National Government the structural changes necessary for depoliticization of the Institute for Training and Use of Human Resources (IFARHU)since this institution is vital and strategic in building the future of our nation.

“The misuse and waste of state resources as a result of its politicization, as well as distrust in the institution, which was generated by questionable cases of granting financial aid to the relatives and friends of certain officials and representatives, are reprehensible,” says the guild.

They mentioned it Lack of technical skills is a significant barrier to employment for thousands of young Panamanianscontributing to youth unemployment and, in many cases, social marginalization.

But, as can be seen, technical education is an effective tool for progress. Training in technical skills provides young people with the opportunity to improve their living conditions, reduce poverty and contribute to the economic development of the country.

On the eve of the pre-election campaign, businessmen appealed for the presentation of concrete proposals on job creation and investment in technical education. This week we will present the Forum on employment and entrepreneurship as part of Project of the State Agenda 2024 – 2029.

“It is time to redouble our work together to overcome the challenges and build a stronger and fairer economic future,” adds CCIAP.
