Etesa: the long-term energy contract will create more jobs

New long-term contract Energy and strength generates more than 4600 jobs in the sector, bringing with it the training of specialists and a positive effect on the country’s economy.

General director of the company Electrical Transmission Company SA (Etesa), Carlos Mosquera Castillohe specified that by concluding a long-term contract, there is the possibility of creating production projects, basically, of renewable energy sources, in which both existing plants and new producers can compete.

“The entry of new generation facilities into the market will enable an important economic movement, with the investment of new generation facilities, which will also allow the creation of new jobs in the country’s electricity sector,” said Mosquera Castillo.

The engineer pointed out that when a long-term Energy and Power contract is concluded, “it does not come at the expense of the occasional market”, because the price will be maintained for the duration of the contract, which will be 20 years. “That price will not change,” he said.

The establishment of this contract will generate guaranteed competitive prices in addition to the development of new renewable energy facilities.

This week, People’s government announced the upcoming tender for the long-term contract of Energy and Power, which will enable the stabilization of the price of electricity in the country.

In the last 8 years, Panama has not conducted such a tender in which both producers and distributors of energy can participate.

It is also the first long-term tender held in the Central American region, which determines the inclusion of renewable energy storage systems.
