The Metro line 3 represents the largest construction project financed by Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) in the region, so the general director of that organization in Latin America, Manabu Ohara, met with representatives of the authorities to learn about the progress of the works.
Currently, Line 3 is the only project financed by Jica in Panama, but Ohara announced that they are also preparing other initiatives related to entrepreneurship, health and transport.
“We are preparing projects for technical cooperation eye transport and health issuesand other topics such as coordination with the private sector for issues startupstype of newly created company that, thanks to its scalable business model and the use of new technologies, has great growth potential,” he said.
The Metro line 3which will run from Albrook, Arraiján, Nuevo Chorrillo to Ciudad del Futuro, will contribute to improving transportation, reducing carbon and will represent a change in social and economic life for the population of the province Western Panama.
This will generate a transport volume of 160 thousand passengers per day with a travel time of 40 minutes, according to the press release of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MPEG).
Directors of Jic met with Minister of Economy, Héctor Alexanderdirector of public finance, Julio Marquínez, and director of public policies, Hernán Arboleda.
Also participated Japanese Ambassador to Panama, Hideo Fukushimaand the main representative of the Jica office in Panama, Makoto Kanagawa.
In March of last year, Panama and Japan signed a loan for 625.9 million dollarscontinue with the construction of Line 3 of the metro.
