Minera will present a conservation and safe management plan

He Ministry of Trade and Industry (MICI) asked December 29 to Panamanian copper preparation of a proposal for a Conservation and Safe Management Plan within 10 working days, the mining company reported.

According to Cobre Panamá, this plan must ensure the physical and chemical stability associated with mining facilities and environmental management, including staffing requirements, monitoring, assessment, among others.

The company explained that the planning and preparation of environmental stability and asset integrity measures required after the cessation of operations is a process that usually takes place over several years.

In line with international best practice, this starts well before production ceases and relies on the experience and knowledge of the mine manager.

“A sudden shutdown before the end of a mine’s life is unusual, requiring additional planning and preparation steps to be considered and implemented,” the company says.

Therefore, Panamanian copper has informed MICI that the company will present a draft for the initial phase of the protection plan and secure management, within 10 working days determined by MICI.

“This represents an initial plan based on our unique knowledge of the site and will need to be regularly adapted and updated to address additional project phases and steps as planning and preparation requirements evolve,” he adds.

The Intergovernmental Supervisory Commission will perform a technical inspection January 11as a part MICI action plan for Copper Panama.
