ETESA: Cobra Panama did not cause a national blackout

National Dispatch Center of the Electricity Transmission Company (ETESA) He denied this Monday that the massive blackout that occurred on December 24 was related to the activities of Cobra Panamá.

In a statement, the company clarified that the mine has not established any connection to the national interconnected system.

The clarification comes after a local newspaper reported that the power outage occurred in Donos.

Citing anonymous sources, the media stated that Panamanian copper tried to connect to the central system because its plant was left without power due to the offshore protests.

A similar message also went viral through instant messaging chains, which tried to hold the mine responsible.

ETESA, however, stressed that the events were the result of a failure in team of the coach bank of the substation Panama 1, located in Condado del Rey.

He adds that with the action developed by the ETESA staff, it was possible to normalize the energy supply.

Currently, the company is collecting information about these events in order to know exactly what caused the situation and its consequences.

On Sunday, most of the capital was without electricity for several hours. Because of this incident, both metro lines were stopped.

However, water treatment plants are the most affected, leaving thousands of people without water.

Other points in the interior were also without electricity for several hours, on the eve of Christmas.

For its part, Cobre Panamá is trying to carry out maintenance and environmental protection tasks, despite the fact that it has warned that it is running out of supplies due to ongoing blockades nearby.
