MIDA presented the Plan for drought and support for the closure of livestock farmers

He Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) presented progress Drought plan 2023and projections for the year 2024, as well as support mechanisms for producers who had losses during the days of road closures, and incentives for C class milk producers.

To date, about 8.6 million balbos have been invested out of the 10 million he allocated People’s government for state of emergency in the environment, which was declared from the month of May to support agricultural producers with water harvesting and the distribution of improved grass seed and inputs to deal with climate change and the El Niño phenomenon, explained the Deputy Minister of Agricultural Development, Alexis Pineda, during the regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the National Livestock Association (ANAGAN).

MIDA is also preparing a list, together with the dairy industry and some processing companies, of producers affected by road closures, particularly those of C-grade milk.

He President of ANAGAN, Ovidio Saavedra He emphasized that many producers were also affected by bank loans, which is why they asked for support to re-enter the agri-food sector.

Through a working group, made up of different subjects of the agricultural sector, a response is given, including credit policies in favor of milk producers, livestock farmers and vegetable producers who have been affected and are treated and studied on a case-by-case basis.

MIDA pointed out that the payment of incentives for the production of grade C milk must be kept for the next year as well, and called for compliance with the forms in order to simplify the payment process.

Office of Incentives and Foundations reported that the payments of the Milk Price Compensation Program amount to 2.3 million balbos out of the presented 3.7 million.

Likewise, there are about 42 files under processing in the provinces in the order of 611 thousand balbos.

The meeting was attended by technical secretary Roy Frías; general secretary, Erya Villarreal; among others; in addition, representatives of the banking sector and members of the chapters of the various provinces that make up ANAGAN.
