They close ranks in the Tierras Altas; They are asking for sanctions for blockades

The Highlands Producers Community Association (ACPTA) supports the lawsuit filed before Public service per Tourism and Economic Chamber of Tierras Altas (CAMTCI Tierras Altas) and forms part of the criminal procedure.

“We are committed to working closely with the authorities to ensure that justice is served and that those responsible for disturbing the peace in our community are held accountable for their actions,” ACPTA said in a statement.

With the support of 320 members of the Association Highlands Production Community (ACPTA) and more than 70 businesses of the Tierras Altas Tourism Chamber, representing more than 10,000 jobs in the district, the importance of investigating the defendants and taking action is reiterated, added the president of the Tierras Altas Tourism Chamber, Maru Gálvez.

In its statement, ACPTA recognizes the actions of CAMTCI Tierras Altas, as “cleanup initiative” the Tierra Altas district, which strives to restore the peace and security it deserves.

He reiterated his confidence that the competent authorities, in strict accordance with the law, will impose the necessary sanctions to prevent future crimes and protect the welfare of all residents of Tierras Altas.

ACPTA called on all its members to cooperate with the authorities and respect the law.

Recently, the municipality of Tierras Altas in the province of Chiriquí approved Mayor’s Decree 015 of December 5, 2023. through which Municipal Chief of the Highlands District establishes procedures and parameters for demonstrations held in the district.

Union leaders and organized groups spoke out in response to these actions. Indigenous community leader Toribio García issued a warning and did not rule out further street closures due to legal action being taken against the leaders.

The Chiriquí Chamber of Commerce He estimated losses in the logistics sector at more than 800 million dollars, more than 25 million at gas stations, shortages, millions of losses in the agricultural and tourist sectors.

The union warned of more than 1,075 requests for suspension of contracts by 21 companies in this region.
