The first inter-institutional meeting, convened to assess the next steps towards the implementation of the judgment Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) against Law 406 concession contract between the state and the company Mining of Panamatook place this Tuesday.
The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Staff of Jorge Rivera.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Labor and Labor Development Doris Zapata; Minister of the Environment, Milciades Concepción; the Minister of Public Security, Juan Manuel Pino, and his technical teams, who will also be in charge of coordinating the National Government.
According to Ministry of Trade and Industry (MICI)As part of the meeting, the information available from the institutions was analyzed in order to make recommendations to the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizowho announced that the verdict will be followed and the mine will be closed in an orderly and safe manner.
On December 2, the National Gazette published the decision of the Supreme Court declaring Law 406 unconstitutional.
It was announced that the MICI minister officially received the notification of the said decision on Monday, December 4.
It is worth mentioning that Rivera Staff took over as Minister of MICI, after November 30 Federico Alfaro resigned from this position.
According to Alfaro, his decision corresponds to the desire to give space to the broad and honest dialogue that the country requires.
After his resignation, Alfaro reaffirmed the unconstitutionality of the verdict Law 406 could have serious consequences for the country, such as job losses and economic instability, international claims from investorsthe impact on the investment grade has already been announced by rating agencies and others who have been widely warned.
