Jorge Rivera Staff was appointed as the new minister of MICI

President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizoappointed this Thursday Jorge Rivera Staff as the new Minister of Trade and Industry (MICI).

After the appointment, Rivera said that he takes on this new challenge with humility, responsibility and discipline with the aim of strengthening the paths of dialogue and understanding that the nation needs so much at this time.

He emphasized that MICI is evaluating the actions it must take in order to comply with the decision of the plenary session of the Supreme Court of Justice within the framework of strict legality.

He added that a technical coordination table will be established with Ministry of Environment (MiAmbiente), Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (Mitradel) and Ministry of Security.

Rivero’s staff has degrees in law and political science, with a juris doctorate Administration of the Complutense University of Madrid and a master’s degree in energy law at the High Energy Institute in Spain.

From July 2019 until today, he held the position of Secretary of State for Energy of Panama and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electricity Transmission Company, SA (ETESA); It also belongs to Comitted Executive Director of the Office of Rural Electrification (OER).

He is also a member Management Board of the National Authority for Public Services (ASEP)The Council of Ministers of Energy of SICA, the Governing Council of the Regional Electricity Market of Central America and the Governing Board of Interconnection Eléctrica Colombia Panama, SA

In his academic education, Rivera Staff has a specialization in globalization and public services of general interest, as well as integration processes in Europe and America at the Carlos III University in Madrid, and an MBA postgraduate study in strategic management, as a graduate of the Inter-American University in Panama.

The new Minister of Trade and Industry conducted his studies in Institute for Social Development (INDES)from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), in Public Management for Development Results, as well as degrees in Political Management and Governance from George Washington University and the University of Panama.

This knowledge was consolidated in United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Regional Schoolon the analysis of public policy from the perspective of human development.
