Camtur wants those who close the roads to be sued

The National Tourist Chamber of Panama (Camtur) wrote an open letter to the president, Laurentino Cortizoto express their concern about the constant street closures that are taking place in the rejection of Law 406, which approves the contract between the state and Minera Panamá.

In the letter, the union demands that Legal profession and judiciary Continue to prosecute these groups that threaten economic order and free transit and have become the government.

Furthermore, if the guilt is confirmed, they demand that their perpetrators be punished with the penalties provided for by law.

According to Camtura small group continues with a hidden agenda, ruining Panamanian families and jeopardizing the future of those living in the country.

They add that handing over streets and highways to groups operating outside the law is unprecedented in Panama. This failed strategy resulted not only in permanent damage to tourism and the international image of our country, but also to job destruction, the suffering of the population due to the impossibility of coming to work and medical examinations; inability to earn money for daily living and excessively high prices of food and necessities for the basic family basket.

They claim that these actions are leading to the destruction of the agricultural sector, putting the country’s food security at risk.

“It is up to you and your government to file complaints, as well as prosecute people and groups who continue to violate the law, the decision made by Mountain Chamber of Tourism, Trade and Agriculture and other groups to file civil lawsuits against those accused of holding the residents of that important region of the country hostage and preventing the normal exercise of their constitutional rights, it is up to the government, which, in our opinion, did not act firmly and with the necessary speed,” they emphasized.

They reminded the president that Constitution imposes the duty to ensure the life, honor and property of Panamanians, as well as the inalienable right to freedom
circulation of all residents.

For Camtur, these provisions are not optional, but mandatory for the position that Cortizo will occupy until next July.

“There is a more sacred duty in the remainder of your term than ensure civil rights, civil normality and a democratic transition towards a government chosen by the Panamanians“without partisan devices”, they expressed.
