Association members National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep) expressed to People’s government the imperative need to maintain a firm and strong position in favor of respecting legality and using institutional means to resolve conflicts, with the aim guarantee social peace and restore normalcy to the Panamanian people and the possibility of working to support the family.
President of Conep, Ruben Castillo Gill together with representatives of various private sector associations at the national level held a meeting with the President of the Republic of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo.
During the meeting, Castillo and representatives of the private sector presented to the president the requests and demands of the Panamanian business community.
On the other hand, President Cortizo was exposed to the unsustainable situation in which Panamanian companies find themselves due to the closures and blockades of streets and communication routes, which, in addition to millions of losses, continues to cause job losses and the shutdown of companies due to being able to maintain the payment of their obligations on salaries and other financial obligations, which directly affects the life and health of the family.
Castillo highlighted the current situation where radical groups with political interests have hijacked those of us who want to live a life of social, productive peace and progress for our families.
He expressed it one hundred and twenty thousand missed medical examinations and all kinds of economic and social effects; but above all, the affected families and, unfortunately, the loss of human life; This is the balance of this crisis, which, it must be said, does not fit into the pattern of behavior of Panamanians, said the business leader.
Castillo assured that it is impossible to talk about economic losses of millions without this painful human counterpart, which is expressed in the destruction of the business fabric, which is mainly made up of small, medium and micro enterprises, which employ thousands of Panamanians.
“The National Council of Private Enterprise remains firm in its position and calls once again to open the streets, not to incite violence and not to allow subordinate interests to affect the coexistence of citizens and the ability to give the country we deserve,” said Castillo.
In addition, the president was told that Conep remains in defense of the productive life of workers; That’s why they repeated the call: let’s free Panama, let’s start recovery now, use the end of the year to close 2023 in the best possible way.
“Inaction will not put an end to this, because we see that, on the contrary, the crisis continues to escalate. We know, Mr. President, that from your personal history you understand the great effort of entrepreneurs, especially micro and small ones, to maintain their operational activities. It is mandatory as soon as possible solve the crisis the country is facing today,” he concludes.
