President of Council of Business Logistics (COEL) and a member of the Panamanian Shipowners Association (ARPA), Hugo Torrijos Dajerhe called on the authorities and Security Minister Juan Manuel Pino to find a solution to the chaos in which the country is immersed, to stop economic losses and preserve the safety of all citizens.

Torrijos assured that this crisis that the country is facing, which has caused damage to the logistics sector due to intense street closures on the main freight routes, It was much worse than what was experienced in July 2022when there was a month of protests due to the high cost of fuel.

“Now there is anarchy on the roads and total chaos in which many videos of transporters risking their lives are seen,” he assured.

Torrijos indicated that there is an urgent intervention by the competent authoritiessince we are not only dealing with the problem of losses in the logistics sector, but also the safety of drivers and citizens.

“The message was clear, the people rule, there were mass protests and the government now realized that the people raised their voices, but It cannot be allowed that some minorities commit vandalism. This is inadmissible and we must bring order,” said the president of COEL.

The businessman implied that he was managing a meeting with President Laurentin Cortiz to try to find mechanisms that will help them solve the paralysis they are facing due to the closing of streets on the Panamericana.

COEL is an organization that brings together 21 trade unions in the country related to the logistics sector cargo storage, sea, air and land cargo.

According to National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep)losses due to shutdowns and protests could reach approximately $80 million per day.
