Sales of electric vehicles in Panama continue to grow. According to data from the Ministry of Energy, October is the second month of the year in which the most cars of this type were sold.
Last month, 42 people decided to buy an electric vehicle, which is more than the 31 cars bought in September. The month in which the most cars of this class were sold was August, 58 of them.
In total, so far in 2023, Panamanian drivers have acquired 317 100% electric cars, numbers that already exceed the projections of 300 units that the Ministry of Energy had for this year.
In that institution, they point out that the October sales are practically twice as high as last year’s, which amounted to 160.
From 2015 to October 2023, 606 100% electric cars were generally sold in Panama.
Hybrid cars, on the other hand, total 4,043 according to ADAP statistics.
In addition to the trust of drivers, the opening of the market allows this type of car to grow more.
The electrical industry is progressing in terms of sustainability. This year saw the second E-mobility Expo, an event that brought together companies from the sector.
According to MiAmbiente, this entity, together with the Ministry of Energy and other institutions, aims to accelerate the introduction of electric vehicles and the consumption of electricity from renewable sources in order to meet this goal.
Panama has committed to achieving reductions of total emissions from the country’s energy sector by at least 11.5% by 2030.which represents 10 million tons of CO2 equivalent accumulated between 2022-2030, through the implementation of energy transition agenda strategies.
The National Electric Mobility Strategy aims to improve and consolidate programs developed by the Government and the private sector to address the challenges posed by mobility and quality of life issues in the country’s cities.
