He Logistics Business Council (COEL) yesterday expressed “deep concern” about the effects the closure of streets and corridors is having on the primary supply chain of Panama’s logistics sector.
COEL He stated that he understands and shares the demands of citizens that were expressed through peaceful demonstrations.
However, the union regrets that small organized groups are destroying private property and causing indiscriminate roadblocks, “which has seriously affected the circulation of goods that essential for sustenance and life of the Panamanian population”.
IN statement, COEL He pointed out that road closures, vandalism of trucks and thefts from cargo drivers have caused great economic losses and put the supply of food and medicine in question.
At this critical moment, COEL strongly urged the authorities and Ministry of Security cooperate with citizens peacefully protesting and take immediate action to allow the free movement of ambulances, food, medicine and people who need to go to their workplaces or medical appointments.
COEL maintained that the fight against corruption is just and necessary, but he emphasized that it must not be carried out in a way that results in the destruction and destabilization of the well-being of all citizens.
“The state must find a way to solve citizens’ demands without harm the economy. COEL reiterates its commitment to the development of Panama and its economy. We will work with the authorities and citizens to find a solution that will benefit all Panamanians,” said the business union.
