Milk processors anticipate shortages due to closures

The National Association of Milk Processors (Anaprole) warns immediate risk in the production of this food due to road closures, especially in the west of the country.

According to Anaprole, roadblocks prevented milk from leaving Chiriquí to the various processing plants located in the rest of the country.

They assure that the negative effects of this circumstance were mitigated by the operation of the dairy processing plant located in that province, which for weeks collected and processed Class A milk from Chirican producers.

However, demand for higher consumption of bunker, diesel and other inputs, which are facing shortages, endanger his work.

Anaprole warns that if closures extended, milk processing companies will have to make a decision to suspend stocks.

“This scenario could cause serious consequences and irreversible consequences in the entire dairy sector, which includes the production of cheese, yogurt and milk”, he points out.

The association predicts a high probability of shortages of milk and processed products due to road closures.

“Hundreds of small C, B, and even some A class milk producers have had their warehouse supply suspended due to the impossibility of reaching their farms,” ​​he adds.

He also emphasizes that they have stopped processing by now more than a million liters of milk.

This sector anticipates losses of USD 1,500,000, which are irreversible.

The situation in the country also affects livestock feeding and farm inputs.
