The economic mission presented the local panorama of Morocco

Minister of Economy and Finance Héctor Alexander and the general manager of the company National Bank of Panama, Javier Carrizo, led the delegation of Panama at the annual assembly of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Marrakech (Morocco), which ended on Sunday.

According to the National Bank, participation in these activities promotes the country’s overall growth by promoting the image and achievements made in Panama’s economic recovery.

Considering the declining global economic outlook, at 2.9% in the global average, the outlook for Panama stands out, recently revised by the World Bank and the IMF to 6% per annum

The rating agency Fitch Ratings was more optimistic and predicts Panama’s growth of 6.5 percent for next year. Likewise, Panama records one of the lowest inflation rates in the world, below 3%.

“We continue to work to leave a legacy that builds an economically competitive, socially just and environmentally sustainable Panama,” Carrizo noted.

The leaders of this economic mission held an important meeting with Christine Lagarde, president of the European Central Bank and former director of the IMF.

The meeting discussed economic development, ffinancial and social development of Panama and the European Union.

The annual meetings of the boards of governors of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) bring together central bank authorities, ministers of finance and development, parliamentarians, private sector executives, representatives of civil society organizations and members of the academic community to discuss issues of global importance, such as international economic perspectives, economic development and aid effectiveness.
