MICI: Panama recovers record export figures

He Ministry of Trade and Industry (MICI) reported that from January to July 2023, Panama continued its record export figures for copper and non-copper products, recording a cumulative total of 2,356.3 million dollars.

According to MICI data, this is the highest recorded value for the first 7 months of this year, of which 1,651.8 million dollars correspond to copper, 545.8 million dollars to other products and 158.7 dollars to shipments from free zones and special economic zones.

Also, it was announced that the export of agricultural, industrial, agro-industrial and fishery products increased by 10.7% compared to the same period in 2022, which amounted to 493.0 million dollars.

Eric Dormoinational director MICI Export promotionindicated that this good double-digit performance reflects the high competitiveness and quality of Panamanian products.

Dormoi pointed out that all these sectors recorded a positive percentage of increase. Agriculture has increased 2.8%industrial 8.3%, agro-industrial 19.0% and seafood 24.5 percent.

According to data from Chief Controller of the Republicreleased by the Office of Commercial Intelligence (Intelcom), among the main exports, apart from copper, were bananas, frozen shrimp, scrap iron and steel, other medicines and raw teak.

Also, it should be noted that processed potatoes were exported for the first time in the entire period.
