Cortizo reiterates that the mining contract is ‘good for the country’

President Laurentino Cortizo reiterated that the contract with Mining of Panamawith appropriate modifications approved by Cabinet Council“it’s good for the country.”

Cortizo added that this, among other benefits, represents the delivery to the country of Panama of approx 800 million dollars.

“This contract is good for the state, for more than 114 thousand pensioners and retirees; It is good for the disability, old age and death program; This is good for the three districts next to the mine, whose settlements are very vulnerable, and it is good for improving the quality of education, because they are distributed $20 million for the Institute for Educator Improvement and Welfare“, said the president during the press conference he held during the Community Work Tour in Veraguas.

Cortizo explained that when this contract is approved and sanctioned, the Panamanian state ensures the income from the company through two checks, one corresponding to the year 2022. 395 million dollars and the other for 375 million dollars; or about 800 million dollars.

The president indicated that it is a contract that goes from 35 million dollars which the mining company paid 375 million dollars now when they will be intended for work in the areas next to the mine; for IVM CSS, for the Institute for the Advancement and Care of Educators, as well as an increase for pensioners and pensioners so that no one receives a pension under $350 per month.
