The preferential interest law will help the working class

After the president Laurentino Cortizo sanctioned the law extending preferential interest, the minister Housing and territorial planning (Miviot), Rogelio Paredeshe said that what they are looking for is the welfare of the working middle class who otherwise have no important benefits.

Said law also covers a preferential tranche of 2% in loans for vertical multifamily housing nationwide, for five non-renewable years, the financing of which is greater than 120 thousand dollars and does not exceed 150 thousand dollars.

Likewise, 1.5% on loans for vertical multi-family housing, for five non-renewable years, the financing of which is greater than 150 thousand dollars and does not exceed 180 thousand dollars, only in the provinces Panama and West Panama.

The minister stated as an example that if the bank’s reference rate is 7%, and the state absorbs 4% in the first tranche in homes from $45,000 to $80,000; and from $80k to $120k, that 3% is an “important benefit”.

He reminded that the validity of the law was determined until December 2025, making it clear that he wants to bear responsibility with the next state administration, even though this rule has been extended for more than 25 years.
