Alfaro: I will not be intimidated by unreasonable demands

Minister of Trade and Industry, Federico Alfarohe pointed out that he will continue to explain to citizens the benefits of the new contract between the state and Minera Panama, despite the complaints against him.

For Alfaro, these complaints are part of what he has to deal with as a public servant.

A senior official described these actions as reckless and coming from people who have nothing items for discussion.

I will not be intimidated by the reckless demands of those who have no arguments for discussing this topic and think that these demands will prevent me from continuing to explain the benefits of this contract to citizens, he said.

Alfaro recalled that they are seeking contract approval to, among other aspects, maintain more than 7,000 jobs.

At the same time, he pointed out that they took care of it the contract contains regulations on environmental protectionwhich the previous one did not have.

The head of MICI requested that all elements of this new contract with Minera Panama be put on the table.

“What will we do with more than 7,000 jobs if the contract is rejected? What will we do with that 3.5 percent of the gross domestic product or with international demands?”, he thought.

A permanent session to discuss the new contract is being held this Thursday in La Pintada, Coclé province, after already being held in other parts of Colón.

These sessions seek to listen to those interested in advancing their position, as they are located in the areas difficult to access they could not pass to the National Assembly.
