DaVita would improve Panama’s kidney health

North American company DaVita reported that its global expansion plan includes Panama, a country that would benefit from its high-quality, innovative, technological and efficient kidney care service, which is offered in 12 other countries, including the United States, Germany, Japan and Singapore. among others.

DaVita has indicated that it is just waiting for the Panamanian Social Security Fund (CSS) to open a new bidding process for its seven-year hemodialysis service – which includes the construction of 5 new patient rooms – in order to come back and present its bid, which will propose raising the awareness of Panamanian patients to the same level as in the countries of the first world.

On May 5, HSS decided to suspend the first tender, to which only the DVA-Sintec consortium led by DaVita submitted an offer that met all the conditions and was below the reference price.

CSS reported that it will announce a new bidding process, which is still ongoing. DaVita then reported that they would not appeal against HSS’s decision despite the fact that their offer met all the conditions and was cheaper than the reference price.

This is in order not to delay the new call for bids, in which DaVita will once again participate, seeking to open its third business in Latin America in Panama.

DaVita has 20 years of experience and expertise that has allowed it to be considered a leading company in comprehensive kidney care services, achieving important results for the benefit of the population it treats with kidney problems.

For 16 years, the company has been among the most valued companies of the prestigious Fortune magazine. It was even part of Fortune’s list of the most innovative companies in 2023.’

DaVita has years of experience and expertise that have allowed it to be considered a leader in comprehensive kidney care services.

Through its international network of operations in 12 countries, DaVita has achieved a 17% reduction in hospital admissions since 2018 and a 14% reduction in patient mortality.

By the end of 2022, more than 92,000 DaVita patients in the United States had been referred at least once. This made DaVita the service provider with the highest referral rate in the northern market.

DaVita reports also show that about 7,800 of its patients seen at its centers received kidney transplants in 2022, making it the year with the highest number of transplants in the countries where the company operates.

In the United States alone, DaVita reported caring for more than 200,000 kidney patients in 2,776 outpatient dialysis units in the United States. It is based in Denver, Colorado.

Outside the United States, DaVita applies the same quality standards in the care of kidney patients, and Panama could be the third Latin American country to have it.

In Saudi Arabia, for example, DaVita partnered with the Ministry of Health to launch the first chronic kidney disease treatment pilot project, as well as population screening programs and an initiative to develop a home dialysis program.

In Malaysia and Brazil, DaVita is the largest private provider of kidney care services. It was the first company to receive accreditation from the Malaysia Society for Quality in Health, the country’s highest industry recognition.

Meanwhile, in Brazil, DaVita treats about 17,000 kidney patients, who are on the list of those least likely to be hospitalized.

In Colombia, DaVita is the fastest growing provider of kidney care and care services in the last 5 years.

DaVita has also established itself as one of the largest providers of home therapy for patients in Germany, providing more than 45,000 peritoneal dialysis treatments and around 3,000 home hemodialysis treatments.

Innovation

As a world leader in kidney health care, DaVita also invests in an aggressive program of research and innovation.

The company said it is investing in a transplant software company to create greater connectivity between candidates, specialty transplant centers, physicians and care teams, with the goal of improving the experience and outcomes for kidney and liver transplant patients.

The company invests in a disease management startup (an emerging company that focuses on innovation and technology to create a scalable and disruptive business model), offering technology-based solutions for advanced care planning and virtual palliative care.

DaVita’s next operational step is the possibility of starting operations in Panama, pending the announcement of the new CSS contracting process for the hemodialysis service.
