Vingegaard reaffirms his title at the Tour de France

Cyclist Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo Visma) was crowned king of the Tour de France for the second year in a row after competing in the twenty-first and final stage between Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines and Paris, 115.1 km, where Belgian Jordi Meeus (Bora Hansgrohe) joined the fun by winning the prestigious sprint in the French capital.

Dane Vingegaard assured that in this edition he is “stronger” than the last one and admitted that his great rival, Slovenian Tadej Pogačar, is “the best cyclist in the world, because he is more complete”.

“I think this year I was a bit stronger than last year. I did better preparations, I wasn’t sick or injured before the Tour. I felt better than last year,” he said.

Vingegaard congratulated himself on the rivalry he has with Pogačar: “We are rivals, but I’m happy to have a rival of his size, he’s a great runner. We don’t talk much, but we respect each other a lot,” he said.

And he added that the Slovenian is “the best in the world”. “He knows how to do everything, from the classics, flat or uphill, one-week races, the Tour,… I don’t. That’s why I think he’s better than me. But in a race like the Tour, I could have been the best these last two years,” he said.

Vingegaard assured again that he is not doping: “I understand the doubts, I think it’s good to be skeptical in cycling because of what happened. You have to continue to be critical, but that doesn’t mean that people are doping, I don’t do that”.

“But if we stop doubting, people will start doing it again. That’s a positive thing. I know there are many websites that calculate the watts that I develop. Sometimes they are correct, but not this time,” he added.

“I tell everyone that I run clean, I don’t do drugs, I don’t dope, I don’t take anything illegal. I know what runners said 20 years ago, but I know it’s true,” he said.
