One in ten Spanish workers still receives part of their salary illegally

Author: POIO LOCAL POLICE

20% say they do it to pay less tax

According to a study prepared by an employment mediation platform, 11% of Spanish wage earners receive part of their monthly salary illegally info jobswhich confirms a slight decrease of one point compared to the percentage of workers who accepted the payment in B two years ago.

According to this research, there are two key factors that determine that wages remain in the positive: salaries low, forcing employees to look for alternatives in the gray economy (38% of mentions in 2023, compared to 29% in 2021) and that these payments B are imposed by the company, although in this case there is a step back: from 50% two years to 37 %. However, the authors of the study point out a marked increase in the third factor: they do not want to pay taxes because they consider them disproportionate, and 20% state the reason (eight points more than two years ago).

However, as they recall from Infojobs, this decision to collect part of the salary illegally can produce savings in the short term in the form of lower taxation in personal income taxbut it can come at a high price for those who later have to claim the benefit of Social securityeither due to retirement or disability, as your contribution base will be lower.

Perhaps this is why only 5% of people over 54 have some income illegally, a percentage that rises to 32% among young people between the ages of 16 and 24.
