Latin America will quadruple the number of 5G connections to reach 62 million by the end of 2023, according to 5G Americas projections.
Estimates show that the region will reach 407 million 5G connections in 2027.
According to José Otero, 5G Americas vice president for the Caribbean and Latin America, 5G and LTE mobile wireless technologies continue to advance and form the foundation of broadband connectivity in the region.
It is added that recent spectrum allocation processes in Guatemala, Peru and Uruguay They explain the interest of governments in the region to expand LTE and work to enable the growth of 5G in their markets.
“As more allocation processes take place and 5G terminals become available to the mass market, 5G will become a reality for many subscribers in the region,” he said.
In Latin America and the Caribbean, 4G LTE networks continue to show resilience and strong growth in the first quarter of 2023.
The region installed a record 553 million 4G LTE connections, reflecting quarterly growth of 2.1 percent and the equivalent of 11 million new LTE subscriptions.
In total, the number of commercial 5G networks in the world has reached 267, according to data from TeleGeography and 5G Americas.
That number is expected to reach 386 by the end of 2023 and 413 by the end of 2025. represents a strong growth in investment in the 5G network in many regions of the world.
5G connections are currently estimated at 1.2 billion worldwide; it is expected to reach 1.9 billion by the end of 2023 and 6.8 billion by the end of 2027.
