A law that forced all companies to carry a schedule registration workers to control what the working day they work is actually like does not bear fruit. So, four years after its entry into force, more than half of the workers who spend additional hours outside working hours and, above all, the vast majority do not receive monetary compensation for this.
This is clear from the report of the employment portal infoemployment and a human resources company Adeccowhich form an x-ray picture of the employment situation in Spain during the last year and which show that 70% of workers continue to work the same overtime despite the imposition of working time controls.
Namely, 53% of the respondents stated that last year they worked more hours than their working hours indicated. 31.1% worked up to 50 hours of overtime, 26.7% worked between 50 and 100 hours of overtime, 18% exceeded those 100 hours, 14.1% worked between 200 and 400 hours of overtime, and 10.1% exceeded that 400 hour limit. However, most of these employees were not rewarded economically for this effort.
This was recently discovered in a raid by Work inspection four large Spanish consulting firms (Deloitte, PwC, EY and KPMG), which are awaiting the fine imposed on them, but have already voluntarily paid 700,000 euros Social security for irregular overtime hours. In reality, only three out of ten workers who worked overtime were paid, while 17 percent were offered vacation or cash compensation. In turn, another 14% were rewarded with free hours, while four out of ten received no compensation of any kind.
Despite this, Spanish experts describe their level of job satisfaction as outstanding, which is not bad at all. And this despite the fact that 35.3% say that they sometimes experienced the so-called burnt out worker syndrome.
