Zendal launches its new factory in Portugal, which will expand production by millions of doses

He Galician biopharmaceutical group Zendalowned by the Fernández Puentes family, is expanding its growth phase by opening a new human vaccine factory in Paredes de Coura (Portugal)which will expand its capacity by millions of doses, reinforcing the company’s goal to become strong in large production in a health situation where prevention will be a key aspect. This was described in detail yesterday by the CEO of Zendal, Andrés Fernández, at the company’s shareholders’ meeting, where the results of the last financial year were also presented: turnover exceeding HRK 120 million.

Milestones in 2022 (vaccine against tuberculosis and the first DNA antigen against leishmaniasis in dogs, authorized by the EMA) will be exceeded this year in accordance with the forecasts managed by the group (composed of eight companies) for this year, including in the production plants Maymó and Portuguese Paredes de Couratwo plants to be added to the five operations centers already in operation, three research and development facilities and a workforce of 650 workers.

Zendal’s momentum has been fueled by its human vaccines division (it produces the covid antigen developed by Novavax) and its veterinary business. “In 2022. it represented a transitional space, after which we concluded a period of consolidation, with new projects —both in animal health and in human health—, and new business areas which we hope will further strengthen our business group”, assured the President of the Management Board in front of the shareholders. The company commits itself for the next five years “with a clear vocation to promote its own biotechnology projects, both in the field of vaccinations and in the field of drugs and probiotics”, the CEO assured the shareholders.
