Ence consolidates its sustainability leadership in its sector in environmental, social and corporate governance issues

The ESG agency Morningstar Sustainalytics places the pulp company six points above the second most valued company

on strengthens his management in your industry in matters of environmental protection, society and corporate governanceaccording to the latest report in May of this year, the rating agency ESG Morningstar Sustainalytics, which determined the company’s score in addressing these aspects at 90 points out of 100. This is a score that places Ence ahead of all companies in its sector evaluated by Sustainalytics and six points above the second best-rated company. Sustainalytics is one of the leading ESG analysts. Its rating assesses the performance of more than 15,500 companies worldwide and takes into account environmental, social and corporate governance aspects.

The latest Sustainalytics analysis shows that Ence is a leader in sustainability thanks to its strategy in environmental and social issues and outstanding performance in corporate governance issues. In short, Ence points out that this analytical company “considers solid management of the two aspects of ESG that it implements in key areas such as environmental protection, health and safety and sustainability throughout the supply chain”.

Among other factors taken into account in identifying Ence as a leader in sustainability was the reduction of water consumption per ton of pulp produced in pulp mills in Pontevedra and Cheers. The company points out that last year they achieved a reduction of 14 percent compared to the previous year. According to Ence, it shows “The efficiency of the company is not related to water management and in general to its strength in managing the use of resources.”

The Sustainalytics document emphasizes that Ence “Having a very strong environmental protection policy, supported by an equally strong environmental management system, certified in accordance with international standards and in accordance with the best practices of the sector.” In this sense, it is worth noting that in its pulp mills, Lourizán and Navia, as well as in its renewable energy plants, “The company monitors, measures and reports on these issues, while launching initiatives to reduce its emissions”.

This analyst firm report also evaluates the strategy decarbonization Encea and the consistency of the management of the pulp mill stands out. Namely, Ence emphasizes that, in a context like the European one, in which regulations on greenhouse gas emissions are increasingly demanding, “It is worth noting the company’s commitment to photovoltaic generating installations and operational improvements that promote the stability of the two processes and therefore reduce the demand for fossil fuels.”
