Air Nostrum pilot strike cancels 20% of flights

Author: M. MORALEJO

The collective starts endless strikes demanding better wages

Air Nostrum pilots began an indefinite daily strike on Tuesday, extending the usual two-week strike (Monday and Friday) that has been in place since last February 27. The Ministry of Transport has set minimum services of 90% for flights to islands and up to 65% for peninsular flights. So far, the strike has caused the cancellation of 20 percent of the company’s operations. Airline sources cited by Europa Press, however, did not detail the impact of the outage on days or routes and assured that operations were continuing as normal, after most affected passengers were moved to other flights.

The company operates in the Galician airports of Santiago and Vigo.

The Sepla pilots’ union, the convenor of the protest, assures that the airline’s “immobility” in collective agreement negotiations “prompted this difficult step”. The statement criticized that “business management has refused to seek a solution to the labor conflict, rejecting the workers’ legitimate demands for work and wages” over the past seven months.

In addition, he decried that the “abuse” of minimum services by the central government had led to the “distortion of the right to strike, causing it to show no effect”.

Sepla is in favor of fair working conditions and occupational classification for technical staff members and measures to mitigate the decline in purchasing power, while Air Nostrum believes its proposals are in the upper range of what is negotiated in most collective agreements. in the land.

That is, an accumulated salary increase over the next three years of 13% consolidated and a further 3% non-binding in line with targets for other pilots (which could reach 16% in total) and 10% consolidated for commanders with 3% non-binding (13% in total) .
