‘I felt safe’: Taxi driver mocks Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s statement about paparazzi stalking

The disgraced British royal couple attended the Feminist Awards ceremony in New York. There, Megan received an award for fighting for the rights of girls and women. After the gala concert, the couple left the venue accompanied by the Duchess’s mother, Dorie Ragland. At the same time, their representatives said that the Duke of Sussex was harassed by photographers, because of which they were even forced to transfer from their SUV to an ordinary New York taxi.

Prince Harry is hated by the paparazzi, he has more than once publicly blamed them for the death of his mother, Princess Diana. Therefore, this statement caused a huge scandal in the United States. “A group of extremely aggressive paparazzi staged a disastrous chase. This relentless pursuit, which lasted more than two hours, resulted in numerous collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD officers,” a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said in a statement. Represented couples noted that while a public figure does generate some public interest, it should never come at the cost of jeopardizing someone’s safety.

The New York Police Department also issued a statement – confirming that their staff were assisting a private security team to protect Harry and Meghan. “There were a lot of photographers that made it difficult to transport them,” said Julian Phillips. At the same time, the representative of the department denied the information about the accident. He said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived safely at their destination – there are no reports of clashes, injuries or arrests at this time.

The version that the couple over-dramatized the events is also held by the yellow taxi driver who transported the former American actress and the British prince. During the move, Megan, Harry and Doria settled into the back seat. The couple’s bodyguard took the passenger seat next to the taxi driver. According to the driver, it was an ordinary work trip for him without nervousness and shocks. “I wouldn’t call the incident a chase. I felt safe during the trip,” The Washington Post quoted a New York taxi driver as saying.

Princess Diana died in a 1997 car accident in Paris while being chased by paparazzi. Prince Harry emotionally described this painful episode of his life in his memoir, Spare. In the Netflix documentary, he also talked about how journalists have harassed him and his girlfriend throughout his life.
