The death of her husband, an engagement to a magician and an incurable disease: sharp turns in the life of the star of the Brazilian TV series Susana Vieira

Sonia Maria Vieira Gonçalves (namely, that’s what our heroine was called at birth) was born, as they say, with a silver spoon in her mouth. She was born in the family of a diplomat. Her father, Marius Vieira, served as a military attaché at the Brazilian embassy in Argentina.

As a child, the future soap opera star received an excellent education and also managed to live in several countries – Argentina, Brazil and Great Britain. But it seems that her mother, the pianist Maria da Conceisan, who abandoned her musical career to raise five children, had a greater influence on the formation of the girl.

Susana also liked art, dreamed of becoming a famous ballerina and took classical dance very seriously. Suffice it to mention that her teachers were immigrants from the USSR. Vieira even graduated from a ballet school and joined the “Grande Teatro Tupi” ballet corps, but soon realized that she still could not conquer the world stage and decided to try herself as an actress.

So serials appeared in Susan’s life – she started acting in the early 60s. But the heyday of the actress’s career came in the 90s, when Brazilian telenovelas were released, which became a cult and gained fame abroad. At that time, many loyal fans appeared on the actress in Russia.

When “In the Name of Love”, “Cruel Angel”, “Castles in the Air” or “Secrets of a Tropical Girl” were shown on TV, Russian women dropped everything and were glued to the screens to take another look at the luxurious life. of Brazilian families in which serious passions boil.

One of Susana’s brightest and most memorable roles was in the TV series In the Name of Love, where she played the villain Branca, an insidious egotist who does not even care about her own children, except for her pet son Marcelo. In the story, Branca opposes his marriage to a girl of lower birth.

In the personal life of the actress herself, passions were also in full swing. Let’s start by saying that Vieira has been married three times. Her first husband was the director Régis Cardoso in 1961, to whom she gave birth to an only son, Rodrigue. In the late 1980s, Susana married producer Carson Gardezabal, but this marriage was not the last.

True, Suzana tied up with creative men – her next chosen one was a simple policeman Marcelo Silva, who was 28 years younger than the actress. The marriage was stormy and short-lived. Two years later, the star of the series threw her husband out of the house and filed for divorce after learning that he had a lover. And soon the man died of an overdose. Two months after Marcelo’s death, Suzana revealed that her ex-husband stole money, jewelry and even filmed her taking a shower to blackmail her. In general, Viyera did not remember her third husband well.

A year later, Suzana met a new love. And this man stands out against the background of all the chosen actresses. No wonder, because Vieira fell in love with a magician this time! A wizard and aspiring actor named Sandro Pedroso was 41 years younger than Susana. And by the way, to this day it is not known who tricked whom here. After all, the man was crazy about the actress he met at the carnival and dreamed of marrying her. But the actress was in no hurry to get married again, saying that “it is better to keep the relationship stable and live together happily under one roof, without confusion.” Five years later, the couple still broke up.

A year later, in 2015, Susana was diagnosed with chronic lymphoma leukemia, a serious blood disorder. There is no cure for this type of leukemia, but the disease can be controlled with regular medication and chemotherapy. The actress decided to talk about her diagnosis only in 2018.

The actress admitted that she was initially very worried about how the diagnosis would affect her ability to work.

“I was proud to live to be 70 years old without any illness. I have been in television for 50 years and I have never missed work due to illness. When I found out that I was going to live with this disease for the rest of my life, it scared me the most. I asked myself: “How will I work in such a state”?, “the actress admitted.

But in the end, she managed to return to filming. Her family supported her recovery.

“Family has always been the most important thing to me. My son, his first wife, my current daughter-in-law, my grandchildren, my sisters, my brothers are the most important people in my life,” notes the actress.

Today, Viyera is still full of strength and optimism. During her lifetime, she starred in more than 50 television series. However, her own life overshadows any plots of the most inventive screenwriters.
