The ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘Phantom of the Opera’ actor succumbed to complications from an unfortunate fall in December. The creative director of the Theatro Technis, where Murray served, spoke about the tragedy.

“It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Murray Melvin. Actor, director and theater activist. He collapsed in December and was unable to fully recover. He was one of my closest friends. He died last Friday at the clinic. He will be incredibly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him,” Carrie Michael wrote.

Murray Melvin was born in 1932 in London. Over the years of his career, he appeared in 110 films and television series, including the works of Stanley Kubrick and Joel Schumacher. In 1999, the actor played the main executioner in the film Alice in Wonderland, he also played in the films Phantom of the Opera, David Copperfield, Barry London or Princess Caraboo.

The actor is known for his role in the film “A Taste of Honey”, which was included in the rating of the 100 best British films. For his role in it, Melvin was awarded the main prize of the Cannes Film Festival – he received the “Silver Palm Branch” as the best actor.
