Along with her husband, King Charles III, Camilla visited Germany on her first official visit abroad in her new capacity. During a meeting with schoolchildren in Hamburg, Camilla admitted that she was forced to give up her favorite hobby – horse riding. Camilla argued that she was too old for that.
“Unfortunately, I can’t drive anymore,” Camilla admitted.
The Queen’s recognition came as a surprise to royal fans, given that Camilla’s mother-in-law, the late Queen Elizabeth II, continued into her 90s.
Queen Consort Camille’s passion for horse riding linked her to the late Queen and her love of horses.
Elizabeth II was given her first riding lesson when she was just three years old, and her grandfather King George V gave her her first pony, a Shetland mare, when she was four.
Her passion for horse riding and racing became synonymous with her 70-year reign. The queen liked to go to the stables in the morning to look at the horses and chat with all the grooms.
Camilla giving up her favorite hobby, which made her related to the former queen, may disappoint royal fans. Since the upcoming coronation does not inspire enthusiasm among the subjects anyway, it is unlikely to add points to the new royal couple.
Camilla did not give the exact reasons why she decided to give up the ride. Although on the example of Elizabeth II. we see that age is not always a barrier, there are a number of age-related health complications that can become causes, such as arthritis or weakness. After all, equestrian sports involve risks.
