The athlete ended up in Kommunarka with severe pneumonia. Russian doctors were unable to prevent the spread of necrosis. In this regard, the 46-year-old skater had his legs amputated, then his shins, and then his hands. Roman suffered two strokes in the intensive care unit. Due to the huge amount of medication he is receiving, he has severe liver and kidney problems. His body’s vital organs and systems are failing.

After the doctors changed the treatment regimen, the skater’s condition was stabilized. He is already breathing on his own, communicating with his wife. Kostomarov and his relatives expressed dissatisfaction with the actions of Russian doctors. The patient is being prepared for transfer to Germany for treatment and recovery.

“All doctors of the hospital in Kommunarka were suspended from cooperation with Kostomarov. Now the telemedicine skater is trained by German specialists. Doctors are trying to stabilize his condition so that they can take him abroad,” the Mash Telegram channel reported.

Roman’s prosthetics will also be performed in Germany. This will be done after vital signs permit. Along with the skater, his wife is in the intensive care unit. Oksana Domnina maintains contact with German specialists.

Some experts are of the opinion that Taťana Navka’s ex-partner should have originally been sent abroad for treatment. Professor of the Moscow Medical Academy, Doctor of Medical Sciences Pavel Vorobjov explained why this was not possible.
