Stars Sergei Zhukov: “In “Battle for cover” we will look at the idea, creativity, presentation”

Sergey, you are not often seen in the jury of TV projects. What attracted you to “Battle of the Covers”?

Unfortunately, we got bogged down in the same type of vocal shows that eventually turned into one big bubblegum. And perhaps that is also why interest in such projects is declining. It’s not because there are less talented people, it’s because the format has become boring. And “Battle of Covers” is not a story about who sang better, but an opportunity for guys from different cities of Russia to show that they not only play well as cover bands, but also can be creative. I could not even imagine that the songs “Lube” they will sound so cool in rock style and “Whoops, Trash Can” would go perfectly with the music of The Pussycat Dolls! I’m sure it will be an interesting show.

What hits would you like to hear?

I suspect I will hear them all. (Smiles.) We are listening to thirteen songs before release, and for the whole season there will be one hundred and fifty or more. I think there will be many of my favorites among them.

You sit on the jury together with Klava Koka. Which song of hers would you play?

You know, I probably wouldn’t cover a Klava hit. To be honest, I don’t really like this genre. Yes, and he never used other people’s works in his life, but wrote everything himself to leave something of himself on this earth.

Will you forgive contestants for forgotten words, missing notes?

Yes, it doesn’t really matter. If we were on the jury of the Tchaikovsky music competition, our echo sounder tuned exclusively for vocals. And in “Battle of Covers” we will look at idea, creativity, presentation. It seems to me that everyone can handle themselves and who is more successful, we simply decide.

Maybe you will consider producing some artists?

Why not? I really liked how one of the contestants performed. I’ll be happy to take his contacts and get in touch to find out what genre he sings outside of this project.

Do you have any followers now?

Last December I presented a new project “Hands Up! Band”. This is a cover band that is now actively traveling around the country and tearing up halls. The other day I asked the editors of our show why they didn’t take my boys and they said, “So everything is fair with us. You can come to the casting and show yourself. If I had known earlier, I might have sent my cover band to this battle. (Smiling.)
