“Living like a prisoner”: Michael Schumacher’s wife found herself in a terrible situation after the tragedy with him 23.03.2023, 18:50

One of the best Formula 1 drivers in history hit his head on a rock on December 29, 2013 while skiing in the Meribel resort in the French Alps. Doctors fought for his life for a long time, the treatment is still ongoing. Now fifty-four-year-old Michael lives in his family home in the Swiss town of Vufflens-le-Château near Lake Geneva. Next to him stands his 54-year-old wife Korrina, the athlete is regularly visited by his 26-year-old daughter Jeanne-Maria and 24-year-old son Mick.

Founder and former Formula 1 team owner Eddie Jordan said Schumacher’s wife lived in extreme seclusion all these years to keep his wealth a secret. A team of medical professionals helps her take care of her husband. Last year, Eddie wanted to visit the seven-time Formula 1 world champion, but the patient’s family turned down the offer.

“It was the worst situation for Mick and Corinna. It’s been almost ten years now, Corinna has been living like a prisoner, she can’t go to dinner, a party or any other event because everyone wants to talk to her about Michael, but she doesn’t need to be reminded of that every minute,” Jordan said.

Schumacher once called his wife his “guardian angel”, after the tragedy she took complete control of blocking out any noise surrounding his condition. Avoiding speaking publicly about her husband, Corinna shed light on her struggles in a documentary about his life that aired in 2022.

“Michael is here. It’s different, but it’s here, and I think it gives us strength. We are together. We live together at home. We do therapy. We are trying to make Michael feel better and comfortable. And just letting him feel our family, our connection. And I’ll do my best regardless. We try to act like a family because Michael liked it and still does. And we continue to live our lives,” Schumacher said.

The chosen one of the racing car driver explained that 20 million pounds have already been spent on his treatment and the therapy will continue. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the family had to postpone the stem cell treatment. As for the private environment, that is the wish of the athlete himself. “Private is private, as he always said. It is very important to me that he continues to enjoy his personal life as much as possible. Michael has always protected us and now we are protecting Michael,” Corinne is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

One of the few people who can visit Schumacher is former FIA president Jean Todt. “People ask so much about Michael. The fans need to know that he is in good hands. He is in the best situation and surrounded by people who love him,” said a close friend of the German racer laconically.
