One of Britain’s richest women, the head of Gold Group International, Ann Summers and Nickerbox, has died. Jacqueline ran a lingerie and sex products empire that ran 80 stores across Britain and Ireland. As of 2019, her fortune was estimated at £470 million.
The businesswoman died of breast cancer at the age of 62. “It is with unspeakable sadness that we confirm the passing of our wonderful Executive Chair, Jacqueline Gold. She was accompanied by her husband Dan, daughter Scarlett, sister Vanessa and brother-in-law Nick,” the Gold family said in a statement.
Jacqueline is best known for founding Ann Summers and running a women’s business for women. Gold was also an activist in the feminist movement – she defended the rights of entrepreneurs and tried to improve working conditions for women.
“She went from intern to CEO in less than 10 years. Its determination and dedication to a unique retail offering led to the creation of an omnichannel retail network. It was her vision and creativity that brought Ann Summers from an unknown brand to a well-known and established high street segment.
It’s a double tragedy for the Gold family in 2023 – Jacqueline’s dad died two months ago. David Gold rose from extreme poverty in the East End to become one of Britain’s richest men. The West Ham United co-chairman died after a short illness on January 4 at the age of 86, the Daily Mail reports.
Sister Jacqueline is also involved in her lingerie empire. She is the CEO of Ann Summers. Despite Vanessa knowing about her sister’s dire diagnosis, her death came as a shock to her.
“Jacqueline bravely battled stage 4 breast cancer for seven years and was an absolute fighter throughout her cancer journey. During her lifetime, she was a trailblazer, a visionary, and the most incredible woman. As a family we are completely heartbroken at the loss of our wife, mother, sister and best friend,” said Vanessa.
