The speculation surrounding Frances Bean Cobain began before she was even born. While Courtney Love was still expecting a baby, insiders leaked information to the press that she had been using drugs during her pregnancy. Scandals led to the fact that when Francis was only a few weeks old, the guardianship service took her away from the family, albeit for a short time.
When she was only two years old, the child lost her father – Kurt Cobain committed suicide. On April 1, 1994, they saw each other for the last time – the girl visited her father in a rehabilitation center in Marina del Rey, California. Subsequently, the rocker’s daughter was raised by her mother, aunts and paternal grandmother.

Frances’ life’s tragedy did not end there. In 2003, when the girl was 11 years old, Love was released from custody again due to drug problems. Frances also had to witness her mother’s overdose of painkillers. She ended up calling 911 herself.
“Some kids my age were like, ‘Damn, I didn’t do my homework,’ and I was like, ‘Damn, I had to call an ambulance last night to pump mom’s stomach!'” she recalled.
Frances Love was only able to resume care in 2005.

In 2009, when Francis was 17, she asked the court to allow her to live with relatives through Kurt Cobain’s family. Although the reasons for her request were not widely known at the time, further clarification emerged in 2012, when Frances was already an adult.
Frances had a long list of grievances against her mother, according to court documents. At first, she claimed that two of her pets died due to Love’s negligence: one of them was poisoned by ingesting Courtney’s scattered medication, and the other suffocated in a pile of stuff. However, Francis cared about more than animal welfare. In addition to Love constantly taking prescription drugs, Frances also noted that her mother had a terrible habit of smoking in bed and falling asleep at the same time.
“I am constantly worried that she will start a fire (which she has done at least three times) that will endanger our lives,” Frances said in released court documents.
In recent years, Frances and her mother seem to be reconnecting.
“When my mom is on the right and healthy path, she is one of the most successful, beautiful, smart and kind people I have ever met,” Cobain’s daughter said in 2019.
Frances also noted that her mother, “a really good person” even though she made mistakes.
