‘I woke up with a hangover when I was 7’: Cara Delevingne spoke about her battle with addictions 03/09/2023, 09:45

The London native said her problems with alcohol and substance abuse began when she was a child and peaked at the age of 15.According to Cara, she first got drunk at the age of seven. “I woke up at my grandmother’s bedroom with a hangover in a bridesmaid dress. I went around and emptied the champagne glasses,” Delevingne said.

When the girl was only 10 years old, she was prescribed sleeping pills to cope with insomnia. As a teenager, she was diagnosed with dyspraxia, a neurological disorder that affects physical coordination. According to Kara, this is exactly why she started having mental problems. She underwent various types of therapy to cope, but at 15 she broke down.

“Everything I couldn’t deal with came to the surface. I took medication and it saved my life. It wasn’t so much a chemical imbalance as a complete trauma response. Inside I found a damn hole, a real hot tub, “said the top model.

The 30-year-old catwalk star admitted she hit her head against a tree to “pass out”. She was at her lowest point and contemplating suicide when she was prescribed antipsychotic medication. Cara grew up traumatized after witnessing her mother Pandora struggle with heroin addiction.

The daughter of publishing magnate Sir Jocelyn Stevens and lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret Jane Sheffield even left the family home at times, trying to protect the children from meeting her.

The impact of this instability on the Karoo was severe. “I was a caring child and wanted to make sure everything was okay. It was not bad. But looking back, I think, ‘Oh, maybe I shouldn’t have put myself in this position,'” Delevingne was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

Salvation came through Sarah Doukas from the modeling agency Storm – her daughter and Kara were best friends. She invited the girl to try herself in front of the camera. Thanks to her spectacular appearance and ideal model parameters, Delevingne achieved success. However, according to the “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” star, he still has to fight for his mental health.

“After a few years I realized that modeling was physically or emotionally bad for me and I would have to try something else. Money is not everything. You get to a point where you think, ‘Oh, I’ve made money, but I’m so deeply unhappy and lonely,'” Kara added.
