BAFTA winners: Cate Blanchett and Austin Butler win Best Actor awards 20.02.2023, 07:10

The main event of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts was held at the Royal Festival Hall. The award in the category “Best Actress” went to Cate Blanchett. The 53-year-old Hollywood actress with Australian roots received the award for Todd Field’s Tar, in which she played the role of conductor and composer Lydia Tar.

This is the fourth “bronze mask” in the artist’s career, she was awarded the BAFTA award for the paintings “Jasmína”, “Aviator” and “Elžběta”. In January, the star received a Golden Globe for her performance in the latest film, and was also nominated for an Oscar.

The award for “Best Actor” went to American actor Austin Butler, who embodied the iconic artist on screen in Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis.” This is the first BAFTA award for the 31-year-old native of California. He also received a Golden Globe for his role as the king of rock and roll and was nominated for an Oscar for the first time.

Hosted by Richard E. Grant and Alison Hammond, Ali Plum and Vic Hope greeted the stars on the red carpet. Kate and Austin met on the track and exchanged warm hugs before accepting the main prizes.

Blanchett showed off her famous sense of style. She opted for a floor-length black velvet dress with a cut-out back. She got glamorous make-up and combed her hair into an elegant hairstyle. The image of the movie star was complemented by laconic earrings, a massive ring and several strands of pearls. Tearfully accepting the award, she thanked her mother and director Todd Field, adding that 2022 had been an “extraordinary year for women.”

Austin looked flawless in a black Alexander McQueen tuxedo. He gave an emotional speech after the awards ceremony, dedicating his win to the family of Elvis and his daughter Lisa Marie Presley. The only child of the legendary singer and actor died in January at the age of 54. Two days before, Lisa Marie and Austin were seen at the Golden Globes in Los Angeles, reports the Daily Mail.

“Grief is a long process, so my heart and my love are always with them. And I feel honored to have been accepted into the family. It’s a bittersweet time,” Butler said.

Actors from the film “Banshee of Inisherina” – Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon – won the awards for supporting roles, male and female. The event was attended by members of the royal family – Kate Middleton and Prince William.
