A defamation case began in the United States, in which Samantha Markle was the plaintiff and Meghan Markle was the defendant. The 58-year-old daughter of Thomas Markle has already managed to publish the memoir Diary of an Assertive Princess Sister. Now he plans to recover a large sum of money for allegedly false information that was presented in an interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry by Oprah Winfrey, as well as in the book “Finding Freedom” by their “pocket” biographer Omid Scobie.
The Duchess of Sussex did not attend the first virtual court hearing, which was held a day earlier, and was represented by lawyer Michael Kamp. Peter Tiktin spoke for the prosecutor, but Samantha spoke in court via video link.
The duchess’s sister was upset by her stories about a difficult childhood, in which she had to earn extra money for food in a cheap cafe. Megan lived with her mother, Doria Ragland, in a nice area of Los Angeles. Thomas Markle provided for her financially after the divorce, he paid for the prestigious private school that Megan attended.
“My sister slandered me to cover up a fake story about her rags-to-riches story. She tried to present herself as a girl in rags who happened to be in the royal family,” said Samantha.
Peter said the former royal publicly humiliated her sister, who threatened to expose her. “She was caught. She lied about her education, about getting all these payments. For God’s sake, her father paid for her education and she fell for the lie. Why else would she humiliate her sister? Why else would she humiliate her father? Why does she deny her family, which has done her only good all her life? She denies them to cover up that she made up this mud landing story. It’s all nonsense. She probably doesn’t even realize the damage she’s done to her sister. She dragged an innocent person into a scandal, after which suddenly appeared hundreds of threats to her life, she had to deal with the persecution of stalkers, “said the representative of Samantha.
Megan’s lawyer, Michael Kamp, responded that 90 percent of Tiktin’s comments were “inappropriate” and “blatantly offensive to my client,” according to the Daily Mail.
“I remember the old adage, ‘Don’t make this a federal case.’ Not every perceived slight needs to be litigated, and that applies here. The plaintiff disagrees with Meghan’s own impressions of her childhood, but this is an inappropriate subject for trial,” Kamp said.
That’s just one of the plaintiff’s many claims. Judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell said she would rule on the Markle sisters’ case at a later date.
