“I wanted fame and flattery!”: Meghan Markle’s reputation threatened by courtier attacks 31.01.2023, 18:00

Several of the Dukes of Sussex’s staff have issued scathing statements about them after the couple stepped down as royals and moved to the United States. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s courtier scandal has been the subject of a detailed investigation by royal biographer Valentine Lowe. He described how trusted advisers to the British royal family have played an important role in the survival of the monarchy over the years.

Insiders said the former American actress and the British prince behaved like “difficult teenagers” during their stay at the palace. “That’s what they were. They were a bit stubborn. It was difficult with them. They were uncontrollable and incredibly headstrong,” says Lowe’s new book, Courtiers: The Intrigues, Ambition and Power Players Behind the House of Windsor, published in Britain.

As a vivid example, the writer recalled the scandal that broke out after Megan and Harry used private jets several times in the summer of 2019. “And this despite all the advice they got: ‘Don’t do it because you’ve been lecturing the world about saving the environment and then you’re on a private jet.’ It was so bad in terms of carbon emissions. But they did not heed the arguments of reason. They were tough to deal with,” Valentine said.

Another palace insider has revealed that Meghan Markle dreamed of becoming a sort of Beyoncé in the UK after marrying Prince Harry. “I think they felt she wanted fame, she wanted praise. She had little interest in cutting ribbons, opening hospitals and doing all the frankly boring things that royals often have to do. But she liked fame. She was flattered by the attention,” Lowe wrote.

Several staffers told the insider that during the couple’s 2018 foreign tour, the Duchess of Sussex said at least once: “I can’t believe I’m not getting paid for this.”

“She enjoyed the attention. Megan did not understand the point of all those walks, she shook hands with countless strangers, ”quotes the Fox News biographer.

Another former subordinate of the estranged couple claims the Duchess of Sussex received constant calls and emails, which left them furious. “You couldn’t physically run away from them. There were no boundaries — it was last thing at night, first thing in the morning,” Valentine quotes an insider.

As a result, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s relationship with senior Buckingham Palace staff became so strained that Prince William’s private secretary Miguel Head had to step in to help keep the peace, according to the biographer.
