Stars Charles III. he didn’t want to give it up, but surely William could: what ancient royal tradition would be broken?

In July 1969, Prince Charles was proclaimed a prince: the Queen placed a specially made Welsh crown on his head. The lavish ceremony took place at Carnarvon Castle.

The title has been known since the Middle Ages. Since 1707 (since the loss of independence by Wales), the heir to the throne of Great Britain has been declared the Prince of Wales. Additionally, a female heir does not become Princess of Wales, only the Prince’s wife bears the corresponding title.

In the same year, 1707, King Edward I tricked the Welsh nobility: he promised that “a man who could not speak a word of English and was born on Welsh soil” would be proclaimed Prince of Wales. And he soon conferred the title on his newborn son Edward II, who was born at Carnarvon Castle in Wales and could not speak at all due to his young age. Edward thus achieved the supremacy of England in the lands of Wales.

And now Prince William has decided to intervene and bring his own vision of the situation to the ancient tradition.

According to royal sources, the 40-year-old son of Charles III is not planning hold an expensive inauguration to officially celebrate his new title. Instead, he and his wife, Catherine, the 40-year-old Princess of Wales, intend to focus fully on building relationships with the Welsh and earning their trust and respect.

William and Kate visited the islands of Anglesey and Swansea in Wales on the first day of official mourning for the royals. The prince and princess were received very warmly.

The new heir to the throne said he is continuing to learn Welsh and intends to seriously immerse himself in the history and cultural heritage of the region, as well as getting to know the people and the land in person. It is this, and not a grand inauguration, that will benefit the people of Wales.
