“The monument is too high, the microphone is redundant”: Nikas Safronov identified the main shortcomings of the Yuri Shatunov monument 07/09/2023, 19:10

The soloist of the “Tender May” group died on June 23 last year. Yuri’s funeral was held on a large scale, tens of thousands of fans said goodbye to the artist for three days. Yesterday, on Šatunov’s birthday, a monument was erected on his grave at the Troekurovsky cemetery.

The singer is shown performing on stage – in full growth and with a microphone in his hands. The author of the sculpture was Victoria Tishchenko. The singer’s widow Svetlana, his 17-year-old son Dennis and 10-year-old daughter Estella came from Germany to the opening ceremony.

People’s Artist of Russia Nikas Safronov praised the work of his colleague. “In general, the Šatunov monument is worthy. A classic monument. Without the frills and obscenities we’ve seen lately. It can be seen that the monument to Shatunov was made by a professional craftsman,” said Nikas.

The well-known artist and sculptor expressed the opinion that the performer of the hit song “White Roses” will be pleased with how it turned out. However, he still saw flaws in the work. “In my opinion, the microphone in the hand is useless. Maybe when many years pass and people no longer understand who this monument is, when they see the microphone, they will understand that it was a singer. Maybe the sculptor was counting on this, “said Safronov.

The expert expressed his belief that the main work of the artist’s life could be conveyed more gently. He brought and brought a monument to Anatoly Papanov, where his acting skills are reflected in the form of a half-open theater backstage. In addition, the masters were confused by the size of the monument.

“In life, Yura was very modest, he did not like to boast of his popularity. For this he was loved and respected. And his monument is very tall: it is very noticeable even from a distance, it stands out among other grave monuments. Would Yura himself like it?” Nikas asked.

Safronov believes that the singer’s family could have chosen a more successful layout. “But since the family considered this option successful, we have to respect their opinion,” MK quotes the artist.

Moreover, it turned out that the monument is not entirely practical. It is made of bronze and sits on a granite plinth. The relatives of the now iconic musician turned to his fans.

“An urgent request to everyone who visits the grave of Yuri Shatunov not to put anything on the bronze base of the monument: neither flowers, nor any other objects – coins, vases, figurines, ribbons, toys, artificial flowers… Otherwise, the metal will oxidize and they will start spots appear on it. Thank you for your understanding!” – said relatives of the artist.
