‘I almost died, it was terrible’: singer Kesha hospitalized after egg freezing 30.06.2023, 09:10

The performer of the Tik Tok hit gained popularity in the mid-2000s. Kesha liked the audience with her bold image and lyrics. In April, the 36-year-old artist announced a new album, Gag Order, which she recorded in the middle of the pandemic. According to the artist, she had to face difficult experiences during this period.

“I’ve been living in public since I was 22 years old. I had people dissect every part of me. And it can be uncomfortable. It can drive you crazy,” Kesha said. One of her new songs, “Life in My Head,” focuses on the criticism she’s heard over the years. The song was written in a panic attack.

Kesha felt the pressure on herself and tried to fit the image she was projecting. She liked to please her fans. However, she admitted that she was doing herself a disservice. In addition, she had to keep silent about the actions of the producer for a long time.

Kesha has been suing former mentor and then Kemosabe Records label boss Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald (aka Dr. Luke) since she was 27. In 2014, she filed a lawsuit against him for, among other things, sexual assault, bodily harm and sexual harassment. The manufacturer has publicly denied all allegations, countersuing for breach of contract and defamation.

In 2016, a judge denied Kesha’s request to be released from her contract with Kemosabe, citing a “lack of irreparable harm” to the singer’s career. This means that Dr. Luke will benefit from songs from the new album that Kesha wrote about her pain. His defamation suit against Kesha is due in court in July.

However, Kesha hid a serious diagnosis. In 2022, she was diagnosed with common variable immunodeficiency (CVID), a primary immunodeficiency disease that puts her at particularly high risk of developing recurrent and potentially serious infections.

“I never wanted to be a whiny, privileged girl. Also, my image was like going out and having fun,” the singer said. CVID is a lifelong disease that affects one in 25,000 to 50,000 people worldwide. Its causes remain unclear in most cases.

“I did myself a disservice as an artist by simply satisfying what I felt people wanted from me. I had to shine a light on the darker side of what was going on in my head,” said the star. After learning about the diagnosis, she became more health conscious. The artist allowed herself to sleep longer.

Kesha is also undergoing treatment for bulimia, which began in 2014 with a two-month stay in the hospital. “I had a weird moment with my eating disorder where the anxiety got so bad that I stopped functioning. It took up so much space in my brain from morning to night. I was obsessed with how I looked, what I put in my mouth, the size of things and people’s approval, “said the singer. Dr. Luke contributed to this negative state of the department, harshly criticizing her weight.

Kesha froze her eggs last year. She felt bad after that. She performed in the Bahamas on New Year’s Eve and was unable to walk after the show. It turned out that the singer developed a complication that was partly attributed to her weakened immune system. She was taken to a hospital in Miami, where she spent nine days.

“I almost died in January. I finally feel recovered, but it took a few months. It was horrible,” Kesha added in an interview with Self.
