The Olympic champion has been in the hospital for six months. Roman ended up in Kommunarka with severe pneumonia. Due to tissue necrosis, the athlete underwent amputation of his feet and fingers.

“Roman is in rehabilitation, he is currently being fitted with prostheses,” explained the doctor. – They cannot be applied to fresh wounds, because the wounds must heal – this is at least six months. Now the model for Kostomarov is being chosen.”

Rehabilitation doctor Konstantin Ternovoy previously explained that Oksana Domnina’s husband first wore a simple mechanical prosthesis, and then a bionic one. The stump is placed under the prosthesis for surgery. The doctor noted that the nervous system must adapt to new conditions, which does not happen so quickly.

“Psychologists work with Kostomarov in a separate room. His condition is mentally unstable, there are nervous breakdowns. Mentally, he still cannot socialize in society,” the hospital told Sport24.

Lev Averbakh, chief physician of the St. Petersburg private clinic “Koris”, warned against an overly positive view of the condition of the “Ice Age” star. The doctor pointed out that sepsis, thrombosis, pneumonia and other severe complications leave traces on the body and tend to return. According to him, Roman will be under the supervision of doctors for at least six months, but due to complications it may take up to several years.

The figure skater made contact for the first time after being hospitalized on May 8. Kostomarov said that relatives and doctors saved his life. “They took me out of the other world,” he said.
